Trusting the Journey (Part 1 of 6)

Faith, growth and moving forward

“When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds. … You discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be.” ~ Patanjali (Yoga Sutras)

2025 marks 22 years of serving our community and five years in our current studio home, Suite 255. In the posts ahead, I’ll share parts of my story. My hope is to show how faith and trust carried me through challenges, inside and out, to where I am today, still trusting the journey.

My teaching journey began in 2002 in the small living room of my townhome. I had been practicing yoga for about a year and threw myself into study because it changed my life and I wanted to share it with others in a way that felt grounded, safe, and sustainable. Even though I studied every day as if I were pursuing a PhD, I still felt hesitant to really put myself out there.

The calling to share yoga was too strong to ignore. I began teaching beyond my safe circle of family and friends, inviting my co-workers at the time to join me. As I continued to study, practice, and teach, more people expressed interest. The challenge was space since I could only teach a few students at a time. I began offering classes offsite at businesses, but many students wanted to practice away from the stress of work.

After a year of steady growth, I decided to sell my townhome and move into a single-family home with a spacious basement. This allowed me to welcome more students and add classes to the schedule. With little work needed in the new home, construction moved quickly. I held my first class there in late 2003 and had a strong base of regular students by 2004. For a while, I believed my destiny was to continue teaching in my basement studio, but by 2007 I felt the nudge that this was not the end.

What I didn’t know was that my journey was about to stretch me far beyond my comfort zone into something much greater than I could have imagined.

I’m grateful you’re here. If this resonated, continue with the next chapter of my story.

With love and gratitude,
Dana Andrea
